Working together for safer streets in Dunblane.

Dunblane Community Speedwatch is a local, community-led road safety group working to encourage safer driving through awareness and education, in cooperation with Police Scotland and Stirling Council. Our focus is education — not enforcement.

A community-led approach to road safety.

We gather evidence using approved equipment and work closely with Police Scotland to promote safer driving. Our focus is squarely on education and awareness rather than direct enforcement.

The process

How the scheme works.

Our approach encourages safer speeds through community presence — not direct punishment.

  1. 01

    Train

Volunteers complete training and pass Police Scotland vetting before any session.

  2. 02

    Deploy

Teams operate approved speed-detection equipment in safe, visible locations.

  3. 03

    Record

Vehicles exceeding the limit are logged securely under data-protection rules.

  4. 04

    Police follow up

Information is passed to Police Scotland, who may issue advisory letters to keepers.

Why it matters

Small reductions in speed make a big difference.

Safer roads for everyone

Reducing average speeds significantly lowers the risk and severity of accidents in our community.

Protecting pedestrians and cyclists

Slower traffic creates a more welcoming environment for active travel and vulnerable road users.

Supporting schools and families

Routes to local schools become safer, giving parents real peace of mind.

Stronger local engagement

A more connected community taking active responsibility for its own environment.

Could you help make Dunblane's roads safer?

We're actively looking for local residents to join our team. It's just a few hours a month — and full training is provided.

Note: Membership is open to people who pass the relevant Police Scotland vetting process.
